5 tips to help your mindset during COVID-19

COVID has caused a mountain of uncertainty. Especially for couples planning their wedding day. This is such an upsetting time and many people are struggling with their anxiety levels! It is not easy to keep your emotions in check when you feel like you ave lost all control. You may know that I am currently running a FREE event for all couples planning their wedding during COVID. It is jam packed full of tools, worksbooks, templates and resources to help you navigate this difficult time.
Whether you have kids or not, these are my tips that have helped me navigate the lockdown. I assure you, I have had my moments! I have escaped to my sons bedroom and cried for an hour. I have sat on my driveway with my garage door open just to see “the outside world”. I have lost my cool with my kids because I feel like a caged animal. It has not been pretty however, when I go back to basics and check in with myself, it helps me reset. So here are my tips that have helped me and will hopefully help you too!

ONE: Take time out every day for yourself
As a busy mom of 2, home school, house, cooking, running a business and taking time to play with the children means very little left for myself. Despite the hectic schedule, I will always try and take a moment to myself at some point in the day. This morning, I went for a nice long walk while hubby took the kids on their bikes. Other mornings, I will listen to a podcast, meditate quickly for a few minutes or drink my coffee in bed before the crazy of the day begins. Some days, I don’t get a moment until the evening. Sometimes only late at night after everyone is asleep but, I will always take a few minutes to plan or reflect, check in and notice any areas I am struggling with. I also take a minute to acknowledge everything I have right now. It is not always easy and we don’t always WANT to feel what we are feeling so we bury it but I promise you… allowing yourself to feel allows you to grow and move on.

“It’s okay to feel what you are feeling, whatever that is. Don’t feel ashamed if you aren’t positive…People misunderstand what ‘being strong’ really is. Strength is the courage to be vulnerable, be real. Some days I feel empowered…some days I feel helpless…This week I’ve had heaping doses of both polarities. Most people I’ve spoken to have felt similar. It’s all okay.” — Aubrey Marcus

TWO: Move your body
This is not a weight loss post by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I am very ANTI diet culture but one thing I cannot deny is how I feel after I have moved my body! And no I don’t mean you now have to HIIT it out in your living room but simply just move in a way that makes YOU feel good. Exercise is deeply personal and what works for one may not work for another but I believe we intrinsically know what we enjoy doing when it comes to exercise. If you are unsure, think back to your childhood… what were you doing when you felt exhilarated, happy, free? I loved tennis and swimming and I loved cross country. My ultimate was horse riding and I was always extremely happy at a friends party dancing so, I know I love running, walking, swimming, dancing and horse riding. So I am now doing the things I can during lockdown… There are so many free classes on You Tube for pretty much everything. Ballet lessons, yoga, zumba, drumming lessons you name it! Your mind and body will thank you!

THREE: Stay connected with your loved ones
Check in with your loved ones regularly. Not only do they LOVE to hear from you, it is good for your soul to see and hear the familiar faces and voices of those you love most! Talk about your struggles and allow them to be your support. Remember we always feel better after we have helped someone so reach out a helping hand and ask for help. The circle of love is large and infinite. Take refuge in it!

FOUR: Don’t neglect your sleep
It is easy to get carried away with work, or that book you are reading or that Netflix programme but having adequate sleep is VITAL to your well being. As an entrepreneur, I have burnt the midnight oil more times than I care to count but allowing myself time to recover has been so important to my business and to me. If you are like me, and you struggle to nod off with so many things on your mind and the fear of COVID does not help, it is my suggestion you develop a relaxing bedtime routine. AVOID the news and negative content before bed. Safeguard your sleep. Without it, we cannot function. Make sleep just as much a priority as any other must do ticket item to your day.

FIVE: Develop a new routine
It is obvious, our day just doesn’t run as it used to. Make allowances for that. For may of us the lines are now well and truly blurred between work and home life. Developing a new routine will help you to define your time and how it is spent. Oh believe me, I get it! It takes one second for the routine to be out the window (insert toddler here) but it does help us to then change things up for a moment and then get back on track. It will give you a framework to work with and help you define when you are at work and when you are at home. This may even help with your productivity, allowing you more time to really do the things you truly take pleasure in!

“We can decide to not only survive and get through this period, but maybe learn to come out the other side as improved beings — with a better understanding of how to tend to the needs and feelings of ourselves and others, and a renewed realization of our connectedness to nature and the rest of the world, as well as of what is truly most important to us” – Jessica Warren

So guys! This is my 5 cents on how we are making lockdown work for us! Give them a go and let me know if any of them have helped!

We covered all of these items as well as a fabulous workbook by Beth from Wildflower Transformation Coaching, who spoke to attendees about setting intentions, how to gain back control and letting go! If you want to know more, join us!! it is FREE
